Google Ads consultant · Andy McMaster · Google Partner agency

The Google Ads consultant whose name is on your account.

Andy McMaster has spent 10+ years in paid search and founded Profit Geeks, a Google Partner agency, in 2016. Hire him as your Google Ads consultant and he is the person who reads the account, writes the plan and answers for the result, with each week's decisions written down. The conversion tracking is checked first, because sharper bidding on the wrong conversions only loses money faster.

Who you are hiring

Andy McMaster founded Profit Geeks in 2016, after a decade running paid acquisition for Australian e-commerce and B2B operators. His specialty is the work underneath the bidding: server-side attribution, so Google learns from the conversions that became revenue, and scaling that stops when the margin says so.

On a Google Ads engagement he is the consultant you deal with. He reads the account before anything is quoted, his name is on the proposal, and the reasoning behind each week's changes is written down where you can check it. Behind him sits the rest of Profit Geeks: the tracking rebuilds, the reporting, and the senior operators who run Meta and search.

Context

Why people look for a Google Ads consultant instead of another agency.

Whether the search was for a Google Ads consultant, an expert or a specialist, the brief is usually the same. The business has had an agency. A senior person won the account, someone junior ran it, and the monthly report described activity rather than results. Now the owner wants one experienced person who knows the account, makes the calls and can be held to them.

That instinct is right, with one catch. Google's bidding learns from whatever the account says a conversion is, and in plenty of inherited accounts that turns out to be a form view, a tapped phone number or a purchase counted twice. A better consultant tuning bids on that signal just buys more of the wrong thing.

So the work runs in order. Check what the account counts. Fix it where it is wrong. Then manage bids, budgets, search terms and landing pages against what a customer is actually worth to you, and write down why each change was made.

Deliverables

What you get with Andy as your Google Ads consultant.

  • 01

A read of the account before any price is quoted: conversion actions, bid strategies, search terms and budget split, with the findings written up for you to keep.

  • 02

Conversion tracking checked against your CRM or order system. Where it is wrong, enhanced conversions and offline conversion imports are set up so Google learns from sales rather than clicks.

  • 03

Week-to-week management of Search, Performance Max and Shopping: bids, budgets, search terms, negatives, ads and landing page feedback, judged against contribution margin.

  • 04

A decision log in plain English. What changed, why, and what to watch next week, kept in a document you own.

  • 05

A direct line to the people doing the work, without an account manager relaying messages.

  • 06

The playbook and decision log stay with you if the account later moves in-house.

Side by side

A named consultant compared with the usual agency setup.

The usual agency setup

  • Sold by a senior, run by a junior
  • Bids on whatever the conversion tag counts
  • Fee climbs as your spend climbs
  • Monthly report of clicks and impressions
  • Account access held by the agency

Andy McMaster, Profit Geeks

  • The person who scopes the work stays on it
  • Conversions checked against sales before bidding
  • Fixed fee, never a percentage of spend
  • Weekly decisions with the reasoning written down
  • Your account, your data, your playbook

Who this is for

  • Australian business spending $20K or more a month on Google Ads, or a trade business from about $1,500
  • Wants one senior person accountable for the account, not a rotating team
  • Suspects Google is counting conversions that never became revenue
  • Wants to read why each change was made, not just what happened

Who it isn't

  • Looking for the cheapest hourly rate on a freelance marketplace
  • Wants bids managed without anyone checking what a conversion is
  • Spending too little for a senior fee to pay for itself (we will say so on the call)
  • Needs a full-time employee in the office every day

Proof, in numbers

What the work behind the name has produced.

Published results from Profit Geeks engagements. The case studies set out the method and sources. These are outcomes from specific businesses and typical ranges, not a forecast for your account.

  • $4.8M → $9.1M

Home services revenue in Sydney, with no increase in ad budget

  • $1.42M

Recovered in year one for a Melbourne apparel brand

  • 8 to 18%

Attributable revenue typically recovered in the first year

  • $3.6B

    Revenue influenced since 2016

What you actually buy

We fix the measurement, then we run the account. It starts with a free call.

Which of these sounds like your week?

  • Meta says one number, Google says another, the CRM says a third, and the bank says something else again.
  • The leads come in and most of them are rubbish.
  • Traffic is fine. Not enough of them buy.
  • You cannot spend more without losing margin.
  • Something is wrong and you cannot say what.

All five are the same job. We fix the measurement first, then the same senior operators run the spend against it. The free call is where we work out which part you need first.

00 · Free

Run your own numbers

Six calculators and an attribution reference. Work out your break-even ROAS, your CAC payback, and whether the spend is structurally profitable, before you talk to anyone. The calculators need no signup.

01 · Free · 30 minutes

The profit audit call

A senior operator looks at your real spend, revenue and attribution gap on a call. You leave with a written fix list you keep, whether or not we ever work together. No deck, no follow-up sales sequence. We reply within one business day with three times to choose from.

02 · Optional · Two weeks

The two-week diagnostic

Read-only. We change nothing in your accounts. Every tag, event and consent rule mapped and written up: 20 to 35 pages, every issue rated P0 to P3 with an engineering-day estimate, and a 90-minute walk-through on day twelve. Yours to hand to us, your own team, or your existing agency. About a third of clients run this first, then decide.

03 · The engagement · Ongoing

The rebuild, then we run it

The first twelve weeks rebuild the measurement server-side so the reports reconcile to the bank, and work the funnel where the leak actually is. From there the same senior operators keep running Google Ads, Meta and search, with budget, bids and creative decided weekly against contribution margin and the reasoning written down. If your measurement is already sound, management starts straight away.

What it costs

Four things set the number

  • The size of your stack
  • How many ad platforms are live
  • The state of your CRM integration
  • How many service lines and locations you run

Two things do not

  • Your industry
  • How much you spend on ads

Revenue only matters because a bigger business is usually a bigger scope. We do not price off a percentage of it. We charge for the work, not for what you look like you can afford.

How it is billedThe rebuild is fixed scope, paid in instalments. Ongoing management is a fixed fee for the agreed scope. Both are quoted in one written proposal after the call. No hourly billing and no percentage of ad spend.

Included at no extra costThe written playbook and decision log, yours to keep whether we run the account or your team takes it in-house.

Proof, with the working shown

We'd rather show you the maths than the buzzwords.

“Profit Geeks rebuilt our whole sales engine, and not just the ad accounts. They went after the systems sitting behind them too. Sales are up 140% and we've pushed past $25M. Honestly the bit I didn't see coming was the operation running leaner than it did back when we were half the size.”
Founder, health & safety equipment brandSales +140%, past $25M
“We were quietly bleeding about a thousand dollars a week and had no idea why. They found the leaks, sorted out the measurement and the offer, and now we'll do more than $10K in a single day. Same product. Completely different business.”
Founder, oral care brand−$1K/week → $10K+/day
“We went from scraping together two installs a week to running four crews and fifteen-plus jobs a week, north of $10M turnover. The clever bit was they tied the scaling to what we could actually deliver, so growth never broke the operation. Booked jobs, not vanity leads.”
Owner, solar installation company2 → 15+ jobs/week, $10M+ turnover
“After iOS, our Meta numbers stopped matching the bank, and we'd basically been writing the gap off as “just tracking.” Profit Geeks rebuilt our measurement server-side and reconciled it straight back to the P&L. Turned out about $1.42M of ad spend in year one had been working all along. They're the first team that showed me the maths instead of a dashboard.”
Founder, DTC apparel brand, Melbourne$1.42M ad spend recovered, year one
“We didn’t spend a dollar more on ads. What they did was fix how we counted a booked job versus a platform “conversion,” cut the wasted spend, and by week twelve our blended ROAS had more than tripled. Revenue went from $4.8M to $9.1M. Same senior bloke on every call too. No juniors, no relay race.”

Reasonable questions

What you're probably thinking.

01

We've been burned by an agency before.

Most of our intake has. The difference is structural. A senior operator runs your account, not a junior hidden behind a dashboard, and you leave the first call with written findings you own even if we never work together. No relay race, no account manager translating between you and the people doing the work.

02

How do I know it'll actually work for my business?

You don't yet, and neither do we until we've seen your numbers. That's why the first step is a diagnostic, not a contract. We've documented this in DTC and home services (the case studies show the full working) and run the same playbook in professional services. If the maths isn't there for you, we'll tell you on the call.

03

What if there's nothing worth fixing?

Then you've spent thirty minutes and walked away with a second opinion that cost you nothing. We'd rather say no than take on an engagement we can't earn, so we turn away intake that isn't a fit. There's no pitch and no follow-up sales sequence.

04

What does it cost, and what am I signing up for?

A fixed fee for the measurement rebuild, then a fixed fee for ongoing management, both quoted in writing after the call. No per-channel markup and no percentage of your ad spend. The same senior operators handle measurement, media and margin, and scaling is tied to your contribution margin, so spend only climbs when the numbers say it's working.

Frequently asked

What operators ask before booking the call.

Should I hire a Google Ads consultant or an agency?

Hire for the problem you have. If the account is sound and you need more hands to run campaigns, an agency or a freelancer is the cheaper answer. If you cannot tell which conversions turn into revenue, or you are tired of senior people pitching and junior people delivering, you want a consultant: one experienced person who checks the measurement, makes the calls and can be held to them. We sit between the two. Andy is the named consultant, Profit Geeks' tracking and reporting work sits behind him, and the fee is fixed.

How we run Google Ads accounts

How much should I pay someone to manage my Google Ads?

In Australia, management is priced one of two ways, whether you hire a consultant, an expert or a specialist. Either a cut of ad spend, typically 10 to 20 percent with the rate easing as spend grows, or a flat monthly retainer of about $1,500 to $3,000 for a small account and $3,000 to $8,000 for a mid-sized one. Judge any fee on what the account returns after spend, margin and the fee itself. The fee here is fixed for the scope we agree, with no cut of your spend, and it comes as a written quote after the free audit call. If your spend is too small for that fee to pay for itself, you will hear it on the call.

How much a Google Ads agency costs in Australia

Is $10 a day enough for Google Ads?

For a test, sometimes. For Smart Bidding, rarely. Ten dollars a day is about $300 a month, and Google's guidance for Target CPA is about 30 conversions in 30 days per campaign, so that budget only feeds the algorithm if each conversion costs around $10. In competitive categories one click can cost more than the whole day's budget: Keyword Planner puts the Australian top-of-page bid for 'google ads consultant' at about $97. On $10 a day, run a few exact-match keywords on manual bids, track every call and form properly, and treat it as research. The same sums answer the $20 a day question.

Who actually works on my account?

Andy is the consultant on the engagement and the name on the proposal. He works with Profit Geeks' senior operators, and nobody junior is handed your account to learn on your budget. You deal directly with the people doing the work, and you get a written note each week of what changed and why.

Should I hire an in-house Google Ads specialist instead?

If your spend and complexity justify a full-time salary, it can be the right call. The risk is that a new specialist inherits whatever conversion tracking already exists and spends the first months defending numbers nobody has checked. The better order is measurement first, then a documented way of running the account, then the hire. Our playbook and decision log are written for that handover.

Is Google Ads difficult to learn?

The interface takes weeks to learn. The judgement takes years: telling a rising cost per click caused by the auction from one caused by your ads, leaving a campaign alone while it gathers data, and spotting a 'conversion' that was never a sale. If you plan to run it yourself, learn conversion tracking first. Every other setting depends on it.

What is the difference between Google Ads and SEO?

Google Ads buys a position today and stops the moment the budget does. SEO earns a position over months and keeps working after the work stops. Both now share the results page with Google's AI Overviews, which showed on 46 of 66 Australian commercial searches in our October 2026 check. We run paid search, SEO and answer engine optimisation together, because the same buyer often meets all three before picking up the phone.

How we approach AI search

What happens after you book

Three steps. No mystery.

  1. Step 01 · Within 1 business day

    30-minute audit call

A senior operator on the call. We look at your real numbers, spend, revenue, attribution gap, and tell you on the call whether the rebuild is worth doing for you and where it would start. No pitch deck.

  2. Step 02 · Within 1 week

    Written proposal

Fixed scope, fixed number, written up. The proposal names deliverables, timeline, the people involved, and the price. No hourly billing, no retainer drift.

  3. Step 03 · Within 2 weeks

    Engagement starts

Senior operators from day one. The measurement rebuild starts, we take over day-to-day buying on the channels we can measure, and the first working session lands. Inside two weeks of the call.

Next step

Get a second opinion on the account first.

The free 30-minute profit audit is a call with a senior operator, and the written findings are yours whether or not you hire us. Bring access to your Google Ads account, or a recent export, and the revenue your CRM recorded for the same month. You will hear on the call whether the account needs managing, fixing, or leaving alone.
