Google Analytics consultant · GA4 · Google Tag Manager
A Google Analytics consultant who checks GA4 against your sales.
We fix GA4 and Google Tag Manager for Australian businesses whose reports no longer agree. The work comes in two parts: a two-week, read-only diagnostic that writes up every tag, event and consent rule, then a server-side rebuild that makes GA4, Google Ads and Meta reconcile with your CRM. Fixed scope, quoted in writing, with no hourly rate.

Who is behind the work
Founded by a specialist in server-side attribution.
Profit Geeks was started in 2016 by Andy McMaster, who had spent the ten years before that running paid acquisition for e-commerce and B2B businesses in Australia. His specialty is server-side attribution: the tags, events and data layer underneath every number a GA4 report or an ad platform shows.
That background sets the standard for the analytics work. A GA4 property is finished when it agrees with your sales ledger and the ad platforms bid on the same conversions, not when it collects more events. Senior operators do the work, and every finding and change is written down for your team to keep.

Context
Why businesses go looking for a Google Analytics consultant.
Most GA4 properties we are asked to look at were set up in a hurry, during the move from Universal Analytics or by whoever built the website. They collect data. Nobody has checked that data against the sales ledger, so the business runs on numbers it cannot defend: a Direct channel that keeps growing, key events that outnumber orders, revenue reported in the wrong currency.
Fixing the property is the obvious brief for a GA4 consultant or a Google Tag Manager consultant, and it is only half the job. GA4 is the reporting layer. Google Ads and Meta bid on whatever conversions they are given, which are often not the ones GA4 shows. Tidy GA4 on its own and the reports look better while the bidding keeps learning from the same bad signal.
So our GA4 and Tag Manager work starts with a written diagnostic of the whole measurement stack. Where the fixes are big enough, it continues as a server-side rebuild in which GA4, Google Ads and Meta count the same conversions and all of them reconcile to your own sales.
Deliverables
What the GA4 and Google Tag Manager work covers.
01
A two-week, read-only diagnostic of GA4, Google Tag Manager (web and server containers), Google Ads conversions, the Meta pixel and Conversions API, and your consent banner. We change nothing in your accounts.
02
A written report of 20 to 35 pages: every issue rated P0 to P3, with an engineering-day estimate and the corrected configuration, so your developer or agency can act on it without us. A 90-minute walk-through closes the diagnostic.
03
The seven GA4 errors we find most often, checked by name: checkout cross-domain gaps, internal traffic, key events counted on page views, currency mismatch, UTM case, payment-gateway referrals and data thresholding.
04
If you go ahead with the rebuild: a server-side Tag Manager container on your own subdomain, hosted under your own account and billing, feeding GA4, Google Ads enhanced conversions, Meta's Conversions API and offline conversion uploads from one event stream, and LinkedIn's or TikTok's conversion APIs where you advertise there and the spend justifies it.
05
Consent wired through to the server, so tags respect the visitor's choice there as well as in the browser, with the banner's categories and wording reviewed.
06
A Looker Studio report that sets GA4 and the ad platforms against CRM revenue, a written playbook, a two-hour handover session with your team and a quarterly check-in for six months.
Services
Where GA4 and Tag Manager work sits in what we sell.
There is no hourly GA4 rate and no set-up package. The analytics work comes inside the diagnostic and the rebuild, and the free call decides which one you need first.
Tracking audit
Two weeks, read-only. GA4, Tag Manager, ad platform conversions and consent, written up as a prioritised fix list you keep.
More on Tracking auditMeasurement rebuild
Six to ten weeks on its own, or inside the twelve-week rebuild when the funnel needs work too. Server-side Tag Manager, GA4 reconciled to the CRM, Meta CAPI, enhanced conversions and offline uploads.
More on Measurement rebuildOngoing management
If we also run your Google Ads, Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok, the people who built the measurement are the ones bidding against it, week to week.
More on Ongoing managementMarketing attribution
Which numbers to trust for which decision: platform attribution, monthly reconciliation to the CRM, and when a holdout test is worth running.
More on Marketing attribution
After the rebuild your team runs the measurement from the written playbook: editing a tag, adding a conversion event when a new offer launches, and reading the daily reconciliation report.
Side by side
A measurement rebuild compared with a GA4 set-up job.
A typical GA4 set-up
- Installs the tag and a list of events
- Checks that data arrives, not that it is right
- Leaves Google Ads and Meta on their own tags
- Browser-only, exposed to blockers and consent gaps
- Ends when the hours run out
Profit Geeks
- Starts with a written diagnostic of what is there
- Signs off only when GA4 reconciles to your sales
- One event stream feeds GA4, Google Ads and Meta
- Server-side container on your own subdomain
- Fixed scope, with the playbook handed over
Who this is for
- Australian business turning over $2M to $20M, with $20K or more a month in paid acquisition
- GA4, Google Ads, Meta and the CRM report different numbers for the same month
- Has a developer, marketer or agency who will run the measurement afterwards
- Wants the findings in writing, with each fix explained
Who it isn't
- Wants someone to add an event by the hour (we do not sell GA4 time that way)
- Spends under $20K a month on ads, where a full rebuild costs more than it recovers
- Is moving website platform this quarter, which would undo the work
- Needs custom reports for every department rather than measurement fixed

What you actually buy
One piece of work. Twelve weeks. It starts with a free call.
Which of these sounds like your week?
- Meta says one number, Google says another, the CRM says a third, and the bank says something else again.
- The leads come in and most of them are rubbish.
- Traffic is fine. Not enough of them buy.
- You cannot spend more without losing margin.
- Something is wrong and you cannot say what.
All five are the same job. We do not sell five products for them. We sell one rebuild, and the free call is where we work out which part of it you need first.

The profit audit call
A senior operator looks at your real spend, revenue and attribution gap on a call. You leave with a written fix list you keep, whether or not we ever work together. No deck, no follow-up sales sequence. We reply within one business day with three times to choose from.
02 · Optional · Two weeks
The two-week diagnostic
Read-only. We change nothing in your accounts. Every tag, event and consent rule mapped and written up: 20 to 35 pages, every issue rated P0 to P3 with an engineering-day estimate, and a 90-minute walk-through on day twelve. Yours to hand to us, your own team, or your existing agency. About a third of clients run this first, then decide.
03 · The engagement · Twelve weeks
The twelve-week rebuild
Twelve weekly 90-minute working sessions with you and your operating team, plus the build work those sessions identify. Measurement rebuilt server-side so the reports reconcile to the bank. The funnel worked where the leak actually is. Scaling rules tied to contribution margin, not platform ROAS. At week twelve your team gets a written playbook and operates it without us, with a quarterly check-in for six months included.
What it costs
Four things set the number
- The size of your stack
- How many ad platforms are live
- The state of your CRM integration
- How many service lines and locations you run
Two things do not
- Your industry
- How much you spend on ads
Revenue only matters because a bigger business is usually a bigger scope. We do not price off a percentage of it. We charge for the work, not for what you look like you can afford.
How it is billedFixed scope, quoted in a written proposal after the call, paid in instalments across the engagement. No hourly billing, no retainer, nothing that renews on its own.
Included at no extra costThe written playbook at handover, and a quarterly check-in for six months after the engagement closes.
Where to go next
The rest of the work, by service and by city.
Most engagements pull from more than one of these. If you're not sure where you fit, the free profit audit is the right starting point. We'll tell you on the call.

Proof, with the working shown
We'd rather show you the maths than the buzzwords.
“Profit Geeks rebuilt our whole sales engine, and not just the ad accounts. They went after the systems sitting behind them too. Sales are up 140% and we've pushed past $25M. Honestly the bit I didn't see coming was the operation running leaner than it did back when we were half the size.”
“We were quietly bleeding about a thousand dollars a week and had no idea why. They found the leaks, sorted out the measurement and the offer, and now we'll do more than $10K in a single day. Same product. Completely different business.”
“We went from scraping together two installs a week to running four crews and fifteen-plus jobs a week, north of $10M turnover. The clever bit was they tied the scaling to what we could actually deliver, so growth never broke the operation. Booked jobs, not vanity leads.”
“After iOS, our Meta numbers stopped matching the bank, and we'd basically been writing the gap off as “just tracking.” Profit Geeks rebuilt our measurement server-side and reconciled it straight back to the P&L. Turned out about $1.42M of ad spend in year one had been working all along. They're the first team that showed me the maths instead of a dashboard.”
“We didn’t spend a dollar more on ads. What they did was fix how we counted a booked job versus a platform “conversion,” cut the wasted spend, and by week twelve our blended ROAS had more than tripled. Revenue went from $4.8M to $9.1M. Same senior bloke on every call too. No juniors, no relay race.”
Reasonable questions
What you're probably thinking.
01
We've been burned by an agency before.
Most of our intake has. The difference is structural. A senior operator runs your account, not a junior hidden behind a dashboard, and you leave the first call with written findings you own even if we never work together. No relay race, no account manager translating between you and the people doing the work.
02
How do I know it'll actually work for my business?
You don't yet, and neither do we until we've seen your numbers. That's why the first step is a diagnostic, not a contract. We've documented this in DTC and home services (the case studies show the full working) and run the same playbook in professional services. If the maths isn't there for you, we'll tell you on the call.
03
What if there's nothing worth fixing?
Then you've spent thirty minutes and walked away with a second opinion that cost you nothing. We'd rather say no than take on an engagement we can't earn, so we turn away intake that isn't a fit. There's no pitch and no follow-up sales sequence.
04
What does it cost, and what am I signing up for?
One fixed-scope engagement fee, billed in instalments. No per-channel markup, no retainer fluff. The same senior operators handle measurement, media and margin, and scaling is tied to your contribution margin, so spend only climbs when the numbers say it's working. The call is where we scope what that looks like for you.
Frequently asked
What operators ask before booking the call.
What does a Google Analytics consultant do?
A Google Analytics consultant checks that GA4 records what actually happened, fixes what it gets wrong and makes sure the business reads the right numbers. In practice that means auditing the property and the Google Tag Manager container, setting key events that match real sales or qualified leads, fixing cross-domain, referral and currency settings, connecting consent, and reconciling the result to your CRM or store. We also line GA4 up with the conversions Google Ads and Meta bid on, because that is where bad data costs money.
Is Google Analytics 4 free?
Yes. Google provides Analytics free of charge, and Analytics 360 is the paid version with higher limits. The standard limits worth knowing: user-level data is kept for 2 or 14 months, which affects explorations and funnel reports rather than standard reports, a property can have 30 key events, and the daily BigQuery export is capped at 1 million events.
Seven GA4 errors we find on auditsHow do I install Google Analytics 4?
Create a GA4 property, set the reporting time zone and currency (Australian dollars, if that is how you report), add a web data stream, and install the Google tag, either in the page code or through Google Tag Manager. Google says data can take up to 30 minutes to start arriving, which you can check in the Realtime report. Then do the steps most installs skip: mark the right key events, filter internal traffic, list payment gateways as unwanted referrals, link Google Ads, and set data retention to 14 months.
What is Google Tag Manager, and how do you use it?
Google Tag Manager is Google's free tag management system. You install one container on your site, and it then holds your tags (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta and others), the triggers that fire them and the variables they read, so tags change without editing the site's code each time. You use it by testing changes in preview mode and publishing a new version of the container. A server-side container does the same job on a server you control, which is what our rebuilds use.
What Google Tag Manager is, in plain EnglishDo you set up GA4 or Google Tag Manager on their own?
Not as an hourly job or a set-up package. If you mainly need to know what is wrong, the two-week diagnostic tells you in writing, with the corrected configuration for each issue, and your own developer or agency can implement it. If the property and the container need rebuilding, that is the measurement rebuild, which also brings Google Ads and Meta onto the same event stream. Either one is a fixed scope, quoted in writing after the free call.
What the two-week diagnostic coversWhat does server-side Google Tag Manager cost to run?
The software is free; the hosting is not. Google estimates about US$45 a month per server on Cloud Run and recommends running at least two for production. For our clients, hosting on Stape or Cloud Run typically runs at about $50 to $200 a month, depending on traffic. The bigger cost is building it properly, which is why the rebuild is scoped on the call.
When server-side GTM is worth itHow much does a Google Analytics consultant cost?
We publish no rate card. The diagnostic and the rebuild are each a fixed fee for the agreed scope, quoted in a written proposal after the free 30-minute call, and the scope follows the size of your stack: how many platforms, containers, domains and CRM connections are involved. There is no hourly billing. If the spend behind your tracking is too small for the work to pay for itself, we will say so on the call.
How we price our workWhich attribution model should GA4 use?
GA4 now offers three: data-driven, paid and organic last click, and Google paid channels last click. Google removed first click, linear, time decay and position-based in November 2023. Data-driven is a sensible default for reporting, but no attribution model tells you whether an ad caused a sale. For that, reconcile GA4 to your CRM each month and run a holdout test on the channel you trust least.
How marketing attribution worksWhat happens after you book
Three steps. No mystery.
Step 01 · Within 1 business day
30-minute audit call
A senior operator on the call. We look at your real numbers, spend, revenue, attribution gap, and tell you on the call whether the rebuild is worth doing for you and where it would start. No pitch deck.
Step 02 · Within 1 week
Written proposal
Fixed scope, fixed number, written up. The proposal names deliverables, timeline, the people involved, and the price. No hourly billing, no retainer drift.
Step 03 · Within 2 weeks
Engagement starts
Senior operators from day one. The measurement rebuild starts, we take over day-to-day buying on the channels we can measure, and the first working session lands. Inside two weeks of the call.
Next step
Get the diagnosis before anyone touches the tags.
The free 30-minute profit audit is a call with a senior operator. Bring GA4 access or a screenshot of last month's key events, and the revenue your CRM or store recorded for the same month. You will hear on the call whether the property needs the diagnostic, the rebuild or nothing at all, and the written findings are yours to keep.
